In the pattern you will find instructions for two different yarn weights: the Breeze Edition is knitted with DK-weight yarn and the Gale Edition is knitted with super chunky yarn. Both versions are designed to end a few centimetres over the highest point of the head for a modern, laid-back look. Details on sizing and materials are listed below!

Construction. To begin with, the brim of the hat is knitted in Stockinette stitch. Then the work is turned with a German short-row stitch to allow for a double-folded brim and the Half Fisherman’s rib section begins. Lastly the crown decreases are worked with a set amount of stitches in between each right- and left-leaning decrease. To finish the hat off, the brim is loosely stitched onto the inside of the hat and folded double. Both versions are knitted in the round.

Sizing. Both editions of the Wild Sea Hat are available in 6 sizes: 6 months, 12 months (Child & Teen, Adult) Large Adult, XL Adult - all graded in 5cm [2 inch] increments. It is designed with 10-12% of negative ease for a snug fit.

Tutorials. There are video tutorials available for extra help on the following techniques: Half Fisherman’s rib decreases & 4-stitch centred decrease.

The Breeze Edition is knitted with UK Alpaca “Superfine Alpaca DK” in colour Sandstone. The Gale Edition is knitted with Drops Design “Andes” in colour Off White.

Sizing & Measurements

The hat is graded in 5cm [2 inch] increments. The negative ease with which this hat is designed (10-12%) means it will fit snuggly. If the head circumference of the person you are knitting for is 2.5cm [1 inch] larger than the stated wearer head circumference, I recommend you choose the next size up. The measurements refer to the finished, blocked hat (Half Fisherman’s rib tends to grow significantly with blocking).
Note: measurement A is taken from the inside of the folded brim, not from the outside.
